Customer Need

The heat treating process used in the manufacture of a ring gear was distorting the gear teeth, resulting in excessive gear noise.

 

MPP Solution

MPP replaced the heat-treated internal ring gear with a sinter-hardened P/M gear. Sinter-hardening allows the part to be produced with less distortion, which translates into less gear noise. In addition to utilizing MPP’s experience in sinter-hardening, this part is a good example of MPP’s expertise in the manufacture of P/M gears. The ring gear is part of a planetary gear transmission, which is used on premium, heavy-duty, cordless electric drills.
